Ryan Dunshea's work is based upon research into the loss of the senses, most particularly sight and hearing. Australian Sign Language (Auslan) and Braille, presented as installations of images and object, form the major part of his practice.
Ryan's most recent project, Trace, was produced in collaboration with members of the Royal Blind Society of NSW and resulted in full body sized Braille plates exhibited as part of the 2000 Paralympics Arts Festival. These plates delved into the history of embossing codes as each plate was inscribed with text of alternate textual system.
Ryan Dunshea (b.1975) is based in Sydney and has exhibited in numerous group exhibitions and held solo exhibitions of his work.
